Russia’s national football team held a training session and press conference in Kaliningrad on Wednesday ahead of their UEFA Nations League match against Sweden on Thursday.
“People’s attitude towards us has improved, we have continued what we started in the World Cup and this cannot fail to please us. We think there will be a full stadium tomorrow too and we need to appear in front of our fans and ensure that our new players keep developing,” Russian national football team coach Stanislav Cherchesov said.
“Any match is important to us because we’ve got the whole country on our side, we don’t want to lose this and everyone understands this well and we really want to win, especially because it’s at home in front of our fans,” team captain Artem Dzyuba said.
Dzyuba was made captain of the team following the retirement of goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev from international football.
Around 32,000 tickets have reportedly been sold for the match at Kaliningrad Stadium, which also hosted matches for the FIFA 2018 World Cup.
