Transfer Rater: Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool, Peter Crouch to Sunderland

The latest transfer rumours from around the world.

Things change in the blink of an eye in football.

The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the Whisper.

Here are today’s top five emerging whispers…

Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool

The Daily Express report Liverpool are prepared to part with the best part of £40 million in January to bring yet another Southampton player to Anfield. The conveyer belt from Southampton to Liverpool is getting dusted off. This time around the player in question is Virgil Van Dijk. The dominant Dutch defender has been in inspired form this season and was a key reason why the Saints managed to keep a clean sheet against the Reds.

Josh Morris to Birmingham

The Sun claim Birmingham City are interested in Scunthorpe’s versatile midfielder Josh Morris. Scunthorpe are currently six points clear at the top of League One with Morris netting 14 goals and grabbing five assists in 18 matches. The club signed the 25-year-old from Bradford City in the summer on a free transfer and he now appears to be interesting a number of Championship sides.

Modou Barrow to Southampton

The Daily Mirror report that both Leicester City and Southampton are interested in acquiring the services of Swansea winger Modou Barrow. The 24-year-old has been a long-term target of Saints boss Claude Puel and the Frenchman believes he will able to land his target in January by meeting his £15m release clause.

Peter Crouch to Sunderland

Sunderland want to reunite Jermaine Defoe with Peter Crouch, according to reports from The Sun. The pair had productive spells at Portsmouth and Tottenham, while Sunderland manager David Moyes feels the duo may still have something to offer after seeing how well Defoe has done alongside Victor Anichebe this season. Crouch’s contract expires in the summer and Stoke may decide to cash in on him so they don’t lose him on a free.

William Carvalho to Everton

Everton were linked with a £30m move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho in the summer but the move never came to fruition. It appeared as though the Toffees had moved on, with Kevin Strootman the object of their desire, but reports in Portugal suggest Ronald Koeman’s interest in the Portuguese midfielder has been reignited as he looks for a long-term solution.
