WEDNESDAY
Real Madrid 1-2 Celta Vigo (Marcelo 69; Aspas 64, Jonny 70)
Madrid will have to overturn a deficit in Vigo next Wednesday if they are to make it through this Copa del Rey quarter-final as they suffered their second straight defeat three days after Sevilla ended their 40-game unbeaten run. Marco Asensio went off injured early in the second half and the goals soon followed. Iago Aspas put the visitors in front and although Marcelo equalised with a thunderous volley, less than a minute later Jonny scored from outside the box to give Celta their sixth straight win.
Benfica 6-2 Leixões (Pizzi 21, André Almeida 31, Jonas 39, Mitroglou 59 71 90+1; Porcellis 44 67)
Benfica strolled into the Portuguese Cup semi-finals and increased their current unbeaten run to ten games as they saw off second-tier strugglers Leixões. Pizzi’s opportunist finish got Benfica going before AndrĂ© Almeida registered his maiden competitive goal for the first team on his 148th appearance and Jonas made it three. Although Leixões twice threatened to get back into the game, Kostas Mitroglou’s second-half hat-trick made certain for the Eagles. In the last four Benfica face Estoril, at home on 1 March and away on 5 April.
