Liverpool news : Former United defender makes Liverpool prediction – fans love it

It’s not often a Manchester United great gets some love on Twitter from Liverpool fans but that happened to Rio Ferdinand on Tuesday night.   Ferdinand had just watched his old side endure a humbling 3-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona in the second-leg clash of their Champions League quarter-final tie.  United were already up against it going into the second leg but Barcelona dispatched Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men with ease to complete a 4-0 aggregate win.  Ferdinand chose to lambaste United but also provided a prediction on who he thinks will win the Champions League. Having just watched Barcelona rip his old team to shreds, you might have thought Lionel Messi’s men would get the nod.  However, after being pressed by host Gary Lineker, Ferdinand revealed that he firmly believes one of the three remaining English sides will win it and he feels that Liverpool will be the side to claim glory.  “I think an English team will win it this year. I think Liverpool will win it this year,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.     Liverpool have one foot in the semi-finals after beating FC Porto 2-0 at Anfield last week but face a nervy second leg in Portugal this evening. Tottenham take a 1-0 lead to Manchester City and Ajax have joined Barcelona in the last four by beating Juventus.  There is a long way to go before Liverpool can be crowned European champions for a sixth time and a potential semi-final date with Barcelona is also on the horizon, but it’s safe to say fans of the Reds loved Ferdinand’s prediction as the reaction below shows.
