News24 – Data analyst makes shock Premier League top four prediction
======================================
The Premier League title race took another extraordinary twist over the weekend – and a data analyst has predicted how that could change the complexion of the table come the season’s finale in May. With just nine games of the league campaign to go, things are certainly hotting up after another entertaining weekend of action. It’s now Manchester City who lead the way after Pep Guardiola’s men battled to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday. Riyad Mahrez’s second-half strike provide decisive at the Vitality Stadium, though Liverpool had a chance to move back above City on Sunday. However, Jurgen Klopp’s men were unable to overcome fierce rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. That goalless draw means City now sit one point above Liverpool, having played the same number of games, and certainly makes for an exciting finish to what has been a memorable season. Tottenham , who drew 1-1 with Arsenal , are perhaps out of the title race now, sitting 10 points behind the leaders. Manchester United currently occupy the last Champions League spot on 58 points, one point above fifth-placed Arsenal and two ahead of Chelsea in sixth. So, is that how things will finish? According to world famous statistician Nate Silver’s blog Five Thirty Eight , City will edge Liverpool to this season’s Premier League trophy. It’s predicted that City will finish the season on 93 points, two clear of the Reds, while Tottenham will finish in third, 16 points behind Guardiola’s men. United may currently sit fourth, but despite their superb form under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, they may not secure the final Champions League berth. Five Thirty Eight have made the shock prediction that Chelsea, who beat rivals Fulham on Sunday, will outdo the Red Devils and Arsenal to finish in fourth. At the other end of the table, Huddersfield , Fulham and Cardiff – the three teams currently in the relegation zone – are the trio predicted to drop down to the Championship. The Five Thirty Eight table in full 1. Manchester City 2. Liverpool 3. Tottenham 4. Chelsea 5. Arsenal 6. Manchester United 7. Watford 8. Wolves 9. West Ham 10. Everton 11. Leicester City 12. Bournemouth 13. Crystal Palace 14. Newcastle 15. Brighton 16. Burnley 17. Southampton 18. Cardiff City 19. Fulham 20. Huddersfield
