Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.
Here are today’s top five emerging whispers for the summer. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for the latest gossip.
Lorenzo Insigne to Arsenal
Napoli striker Lorenzo Insigne has emerged as one of Arsenal’s primary summer targets, according to reports in The Sun this week.
The 25-year-old Italy international has found the net nine times for the Serie A side this season, as well as providing six assists in the league. He impressed the Premier League side’s scouts with an excellent curling effort during his club’s recent 3-1 victory over Chievo.
Insigne’s current deal runs until 2019, and it is thought that the Gli Azzurri will demand around £44 million for the player, who has made over 150 league appearances for the club.
Kyle Walker to Barcelona
Tottenham Hotspur’s Kyle Walker is on the radar of La Liga giants Barcelona, according to the Evening Standard.
Walker signed for Spurs from Sheffield United in 2009 as a 19-year-old, and in the eight years since has established himself as one of the best wing-backs in the Premier League.
The five-time European champions are thought to be interested in the England international as a long-term solution to the problem created by Dani Alves’ departure last summer.
However, having signed a new contract with the London club just five months ago, keeping him at White Hart Lane until 2021, Barcelona know the player will come with a hefty price tag.
Cesc Fabregas to Juventus
According to The Sun, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is “desperate” to sign his former centre-back Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus, and the deal could see midfielder Cesc Fabregas go the other way.
Current Juve boss Max Allegri is thought to see Fabregas as the ideal replacement for 31-year-old Claudio Marchisio, with the former Arsenal and Barcelona playmaker’s playing style perfect for Serie A.
The west London club had a bid just short of £50m for Bonucci rejected in the summer, and Conte may be tempted to part with a player who has started just five Premier League games so far this season to get the deal over the line.
Karim Benzema to Paris Saint-Germain
Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are set for a shock swap deal involving two of their star players, Edinson Cavani and Karim Benzema, reports in Spanish media outlet AS are suggesting.
Cavani is enjoying his best ever season with PSG in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, scoring 34 goals so far this term, including seven in seven games in the Champions League. Benzema has been less prolific for the European champions, scoring 11 in the current campaign.
AS state that Real are looking for more energy up front, in contrast with the casual style of the 29 year old Frenchman, while the French champions are thought to want to add more native talent to their ranks.
Saul Niguez to Manchester United
Atletico Madrid’s versatile midfielder Saul Niguez has emerged as Jose Mourinho’s second target at the La Liga club alongside teammate Antoine Griezmann, The Sun has revealed.
There are expected to be a number of departures from Manchester United in the summer as the Portuguese boss looks to overhaul the squad, including Bastian Schweinsteiger, Ashley Young and Michael Carrick. United have been tracking the Atletico youth product since 2014, when the club scouted the player.
Niguez signed a new deal last season keeping him at the club until 2021, however that contract contains a £54m buyout clause it is thought the Red Devils would be willing to trigger.
