Second-half goals from David Silva – via the penalty spot – and Gerard Deulofeu made the difference in perhaps the most high-profile game of the night, Spain seeing off France in Paris.
Meanwhile Portugal, who beat Les Bleus in glorious circumstances in the French capital last summer, took the lead against Sweden in Madeira through Cristiano Ronaldo. They subsequently went 2-0 in front but eventually succumbed to two efforts from Viktor Claesson and a late JoĂŁo Cancelo own goal.

Elsewhere, Netherlands caretaker coach Fred Grim’s tenure started with a loss despite the Oranje going in front when Alessio Romagnoli turned into his own net inside ten minutes. Éder and Leonardo Bonucci struck later for the Azzurri.
