Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.
Here are today’s top five emerging whispers for the summer. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.
Kieran Gibbs to Watford
Watford have reportedly agree a fee for out-of-favour Arsenal left-back Gibbs. The defender, who is in the final year of his contract at the Emirates, is reportedly keen on a move to Vicarage Road after West Bromwich Albion pulled out of talks to sign him last month. Newcastle United have also expressed an interest in the 27-year-old but it appears the Hornets are the clear frontrunners.
Jonny Evans to Leicester City
West Brom are braced for a new bid from Leicester to sign Evans after already turning down a £23m offer. The Manchester City transfer target, who joined the Baggies from Manchester United in 2015, is in high demand after an impressive spell at the Hawthorns. If Evans is to move to City then Baggies boss Tony Pulis reportedly wants Eliaquim Mangala in exchange. But it remains to be seen if Pep Guardiola will allow the Frenchman to leave.
Jeroen Zoet to Newcastle United
Newcastle United have expressed interest in signing PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet. De Telegraaf claims that Crystal Palace are also in the frame for the 26-year-old but it is unclear whether either club are willing to meet the Eredivisie side’s asking price, which has reportedly increased after interest was shown. Rob Elliot has started as the Magpies’ No. 1 but it is one of several positions manager Rafael Benitez is keen on strengthening before the window closes.
Simon Mignolet to Napoli
Liverpool keeper Mignolet could follow the path of Pepe Reina by signing for Napoli, according to reports. The Belgian stopper was dropped for the Reds’ win over Arsenal on Sunday, with Klopp saying afterwards: “Intensity for a goalkeeper is different. It is not physical. It is mental. Simon is a clear No. 1. He won the race in preseason. You can always rely on him. He is solid — a machine; 100 percent he plays against City.” But Napoli have made enquiries as they prepare to potentially lose Reina to Paris Saint-Germain.
Divock Origi to Marseille
Marseille are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Liverpool forward Origi. The 22-year-old, who has not been in Klopp’s matchday squad for the last two games, has only made one substitute appearance this season and is keen to play regularly for fear of losing out on a place in Belgium’s World Cup squad. Following the thrashing of Arsenal, Klopp was coy when asked if Origi could leave the club on loan, simply saying: “We will see.”
