Mourinho eyes shock reunion with Ozil; Man City to enter race for Lacazette

Shaka Hislop explains why it is hard to justify wanting to play for Man United right now for a reason other than money.

The football world’s gossip mill is in full swing, and Transfer Talk is monitoring the whispers ahead of all the summer moves. Check out the latest deals here.

TOP STORY: Mourinho eyes Ozil reunion

Jose Mourinho has always been fond of Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil and the Manchester United coach reportedly cannot resist having the opportunity to manage the Germany playmaker once more, according to the Mirror.

Ozil will enter the final year of his current contract at the Emirates in July and the Arsenal faithful are beginning to agitate over whether the 28-year-old will push for a move to one of their rivals or not. With a mutual admiration from both sides, Mourinho is reportedly eager to enquire about the possibility of adding the former Real Madrid star’s craft to his team.

Having failed to sustain a title push this year, Mourinho will be desperate to finish assembling a squad to his approval this summer and Ozil presents a rare chance to sign a world-class player with whom he is familiar.

Ozil, for his part, has indicated that the future of Arsene Wenger remains critical to his own at Arsenal, saying he has a “super understanding” with his current manager.

City to enter race for £40m Lacazette

Pep Guardiola thinks about football differently than most. To even consider ditching a world-class striker like Sergio Aguero would be inconceivable for the majority of football clubs, and yet the Mirror reports Manchester City are ready to spend big on another forward in Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsenal have been long-term admirers of the 25-year-old, but another 30 goals this season appear to have attracted City, too. The Ligue 1 club value Lacazette at around £40 million, with Atletico Madrid also rumoured to be keen.

His future appears somewhat linked to that of Antoine Griezmann, another supremely talented forward who could move this summer and trigger a series of other high-profile transfers.

Alexandre Lacazette’s future could be linked to that of Antoine Griezmann in a string of potential high-profile transfers.

City also track Palace ace Zaha’s availability

Manchester City are also monitoring Wilfried Zaha’s situation at Crystal Palace, with the Mail reporting that the club have asked to be kept in the loop regarding his availability.

The Eagles are wary of the Ivory Coast international’s emerging importance and will look to address the disparity between his and Christian Benteke’s £120,000-per-week wages.

It is thought that Palace rate the 24-year-old at £30 million, with a move back to Manchester — this time with City — a possibility.

Everton target £27m Brazilian star to replace Lukaku

It feels likely that Romelu Lukaku will push for a summer move after contract negotiations stalled with Everton and that probability only increases with the reports from the Mirror that the Toffees want Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose.

While Evertonians will be distraught to see the Belgium international depart, forking out £27 million on La Real’s striker, who has struck nine goals and assisted three more this term,  would send a serious message of intent.

Ronald Koeman will face competition though, as Southampton, Watford and Newcastle have also registered their interest.

Pickford gains further admirers

West Ham have joined the race to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, with the Sun reporting that the Hammers will compete with Arsenal and Everton for the England under-21 international. Manchester City and Tottenham are also tentatively interested in the 23-year-old.

The Black Cats may be forced to sell if they fail to beat the drop, which could open the door to a £15 million move away for the player.

Tap-ins

– Torino striker Andrea Belotti “wants to stay,” claims Sinisa Mihajlovic in Tuttosport, dealing a blow to Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona, who have been linked with the player. The 23-year-old has a buyout clause of €100 million and currently leads the race in Serie A for the Capocannoniere with Edin Dzeko on 23 goals.

– Chelsea are facing a fight to land the next Gianluigi Buffon, with the Mirror reporting that Inter have outbid the Blues for Udinese starlet Alex Meret. The 20-year-old has impressed on loan at SPAL and the Nerazzurri’s £7 million bid betters Chelsea’s £6 million offer, with Juventus set to enter the race and drive the price up even further.
