Tottenham inflicted Josep Guardiola’s first defeat as Manchester City manager as the leaders saw their 100% Premier League record halted in London. Aleksandar Kolarov’s own goal and Dele Alli’s precise finish moved Spurs to within one point of the leaders. Claudio Bravo prevented further damage, denying Erik Lamela from the spot as the visitors struggled without Kevin De Bruyne.

Dundee 0-1 Celtic (Brown 47)
Celtic remain unbeaten and clear at the top in Scotland after Scott Brown curled the ball in when Moussa Dembélé’s initial effort was blocked. It could have been more as Celtic dominated Dundee by 16 shots to two.

Schalke 4-0 Borussia Mönchengladbach (Choupo-Moting 52pen, Embolo 56 83, Goretzka 58)
Gladbach slipped to their second Bundesliga reverse this term away to previously point-less Schalke, André Schubert’s men ending the weekend ninth in the table.

Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves saved two penalties – denying both Antoine Griezmann and Gabi – but ultimately could not prevent Atlético claiming their third consecutive win in all competitions to go top in Spain. Griezmann made amends after good work by Kevin Gameiro, before the former Sevilla forward added a second late on.

Bayern’s perfect start to the Bundesliga season has been ended in match six, four games earlier than 2015/16. Having lost 2-1 at Atlético Madrid on Wednesday, Bayern took the lead through Joshua Kimmich’s diving header. However, Anthony Modeste’s fifth league goal of the season ensured Köln maintained their unbeaten record on Saturday.

Unbeaten Spurs have now made their best ever start to a Premier League season after an impressive victory against the leaders. Aleksandar Kolarov diverted Danny Rose’s cross past goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to give the hosts an early lead before Alli added a second before the break with a low drive. Erik Lamela missed a 65th-minute spot kick, but Spurs would not be denied.

Admir Mehmedi’s header and a late goal on the break from Javier Hernández on Saturday moved Leverkusen to within six points of early pacesetters Bayern. Bernd Leno had a fine game in the Werkself goal.

Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Borussia Dortmund (Mehmedi 10, Hernández 79)
Dortmund are now four points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern despite having most of the play at Leverkusen, with 70% possession and a 9-1 advantage in corners.

Real Madrid 1-1 Eibar (Bale 17; Rico 6)
Gareth Bale hit his 50th Liga goal to cancel out Eibar’s early opener, but Madrid were unable to reclaim top spot from Atlético as they had to settle for a fourth consecutive draw in all competitions.

Legia have their first victory under new coach Jacek Magiera as they put their winless September behind them against a side that began the weekend as joint leaders. Guilherme had not scored since the Polish Super Cup in July before his swift two-goal burst on Saturday.

Premier League champions Leicester have now won only two of their opening seven leagues games after being held to a second goalless stalemate at home this term.

Viborg 0-0 København
There was no way through for Danish top-flight leaders FCK as they played out a fifth league draw in 12 games.

Diogo Jota scored his first senior hat-trick before half-time to get off the mark for Porto. Jota, 19, is on loan from Atlético Madrid, whom he joined this year from Paços de Ferreira.

Club Brugge 1-0 Gent (Van Rhijn 42)
Summer signing Ricardo van Rhijn opened his account for the hosts and secured a third straight league win in the process. Rami Gershon was sent off for Gent four minutes from time.

Empoli 0-3 Juventus (Dybala 65, Higuaín 67 70)
Juventus scored three in six second-half minutes to see off lowly Empoli as Gonzalo Higuaín made it six goals in his first seven Serie A outings for the league leaders.

Sevilla 2-1 Alavés (Ben Yedder 74 90; Laguardia 84)
Wissam Ben Yedder scored the winner that downed Lyon 1-0 on Tuesday and he was at it again on Saturday. This time, the summer signing struck the clincher in the final minute of normal time, tapping in after a great run and cut-back by Vitolo.
